Exercise protects women through menopause. The American Journal of Epidemiology researchers have found women get weaker as they go through menopause, although physical exercise can stave off the decline.
Studies, studies….and they all like exercise
The Chicago Tribune quotes the Journal of American Medical Association as saying that men and women between the ages of 70 and 90, who follow the Association’s regular exercise recommendations, lower their risk of death in the next 10 years by 37%
Meanwhile the University of Michigan Medical school, in a separate study, found that adults who are physically active in their 50’s and early 60’s are about 35% less likely to die in the next 8 years than those who are sedentary
Professor Peter Joki , who headed another ageing study at Yale School of Medicine, concludes that many older people grow weaker not because they age, but because they do not use their muscles as much as they did in their youth
