about the studio

Axis Pilates was established January 6th, 2003 by Rachel Kennedy as a small private training studio. On April 14th 2009 Therese Audibert and Tina Boylan became the new owners of Axis Pilates. Tina, a long term employee of Axis, had worked with Therese at another location for a number or years. The pair decided to combine their passion for Pilates and their commitment to excellence together to offer clients a service of an exceptional standard.

The studio provides a warm and friendly setting. Sessions are focused on the individual and aim to provide a detailed, encouraging and informed approach to Pilates instruction in order to achieve efficient results and an increased sense of well being.

Types of sessions offered are private, small group studio sessions and mat classes.

The studio is equipped with top of the line Pilates equipment from Peak Pilates and Balanced Body. All sessions are one hour in length. The studio door is locked whilst class is in progress to ensure privacy and safety.

Axis Pilates is located at 153 Campbell Street in Surry Hills, 2 blocks South of Oxford Street at Riley Street in the heart of Sydney and is easily accessible by car, bus or train (see map and directions).

how to begin

Call the studio to discuss your training needs and ask any important questions you may have regarding Pilates and beginning a Pilates training program.

Book in for your initial assessment.

initial assessment $80

This is a one hour private assessment where we will get to know you and your medical history as well as discuss you specific goals. We will look at any x-rays, scans or medical referrals you may have (so don't forget to bring them with you). A brief postural analysis will be performed and you will be introduced to some of the Pilates fundamentals. This will allow us to design a specific Pilates program to suit your individual needs.

After your initial assessment you can choose to either continue with private lessons and / or join in studio sessions. If you are relatively free of injury you may also want to consider joining a mat class (eligibility for mat class is assessed on a case by case basis). We recommend 2-3 classes per week for maximum benefit.

explanation of sessions offered at axis pilates

studiosessions
Maximum of four clients per instructor. One hour duration. Clients are given a personalised workout tailored to their specific needs and goals. All Pilates apparatus are utilised including the Cadillac, Reformer, Wunda Chair and Barrels. Because the workout is personalised, the studio session is suitable for clients with almost every type of background. For example: clients wanting to rehabilitate from injury, as well as clients training for a specific goal.

Private sessions
One client, one instructor. One hour duration. The client is assessed and a planned progressive workout is specifically designed accordingly. The aim of these sessions is to provide a focused, detailed workout that continuously balances and strengthens the client. These lessons are designed for those clients who prefer to train on a one-on-one basis, those wishing to compliment mat classes with a personalised workout on the equipment.

how often to train

2 - 3 times a week is optimal for consistent improvement and time efficient results.

Pilates is a form of exercise that can be practiced every day with excellent results. However, clients are only expected to train as many times as is possible to suit their needs and goals in the time frame they wish to achieve them.

tips for your workout

Comfortable workout attire is recommended. NO short baggy shorts or tops, they will reveal more than you want! No need for shoes. Clean socks are all you need.

Arriving 5 to 10 minutes prior to class start time is recommended in order to prepare yourself and relax your mind.

Avoid wearing perfumes or strong deodorants as these affect breathing, allergies and chemical sensitivities in a class situation.
